Teaching for Transformation
Pella Christian High School throughout its history has focused on the integration of faith and learning in all that we do. As a process of ongoing growth and building on this strength, PCHS and our sister schools have begun implementing the Teaching for Transformation framework. The Teaching for Transformation framework helps us design learning opportunities that invite, nurture, and empower students to know God's story and live their part in God's story. Learn more about this framework in the information below.
Every Christian school classroom must have a powerful and compelling vision of the Kingdom that creates a longing and a desire within every student to play their part in God's unfolding story (Center for the Advancement of Christian Education TfT Brochure). The classroom storyline is designed to help teachers establish the connection between their curriculum and God's story. The storyline invites students to imagine his or her place in God's story in daily learning. See the photos below for examples of storylines at PCHS
The Throughlines are biblical characteristics that each person can be challenged to embody. Christian schools can develop Christian culture by challenging their people to actively live out these characteristics. These Biblical Throughlines help us to understand our roles within the community. See below for a list and description of our ten Throughlines.
IMAGE REFLECTOR: I can bear the image of God in my daily life by developing my gifts to reflect God and serve others. (Genesis 1:27)
COMMUNITY BUILDER: I can be an active pursuer and builder of communal shalom. We will be communities of grace where we will walk and work together in a spirit of shalom. ( 1 Corinthians 12:12)
GOD WORSHIPER: I can understand that worshipping God is about celebrating who God is, what God has done and is doing, and what God has created. It is about standing in awe and wonder of a knowledge of Him and His promises. I can see worship as a way of life. (Psalm 34:3)
JUSTICE SEEKER: I can act as an agent of change by identifying and responding to injustices. (Micah 6:8)
EARTH KEEPER: I can respond to God's call to be stewards of all creation. (Psalm 24:1)
TRUTH SEEKER: I can understand that when other "things" are more important to use than our relationship with God, they become idols. I can be challenged to identify, understand and discern the idols of our time. (Deuteronomy 11:16)
ORDER DISCOVERER: I can find harmony and order in God's creation. (Psalm 19:1-3)
BEAUTY CREATOR: I can glorify and praise God by creating that which is beautiful and pleasing to Him. This offering of creativity is a joyful duty that we offer as a sacrifice of praise. (Colossians 1:16)
CREATION ENJOYER: I can celebrate and discover God's beautiful creation. (Psalm 65:8)
SERVANT WORKER: I can work actively to heal brokenness and bring joy to individuals and to culture. (1 John 3:16)
Formational Learning Experiences (FLEx) help students to live our his or her part in God's story now. Every Christian school should offer meaningful opportunities for students to do real work, for real people with real needs. FLEx allow students to take action with their faith and build capacity for them to become people who live and breathe to work of God's kingdom. See video and pictures below of FLEx activities at PCHS.
