2020 Pella Christian High School Society Meeting
New Board Member Nominees
Three to be elected to three-year terms (2020-2024)

District I: (one to be elected)

Wes Van Maanen or Duane Vos

Wes and his wife Taunya, reside in Pella and attend Faith Christian Reformed Church.  They have 6 children; Klaeton, Paige and Jaed who all attended PCHS, Trae, Daiva and Kaesy currently attending PCGS. Wes is employed at Pella Corporation as an IT Analyst and shared this statement:

“I believe Christian education is a tremendous blessing to parents seeking to raise children who love and follow Christ. It is a comfort to me knowing that I am entrusting my children to teachers and staff who desire to nurture their faith in God.

I appreciate the efforts, sacrifices and commitment of those who have played a part in guiding and supporting this school and its mission for the past 80 years. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the society in pursuing God’s will for PCHS if elected.” 

Duane is married to Stephanie and they have 3 children: Hanna, a 2009 PCHS alumni, Kaitlyn who just finished her junior year at PCHS and Seth who attends PCGS. Duane is employed at RACOM Critical Communications.  The Vos family attends Faith Reformed Church in Pella. Duane provided the following statement: 

    “I support Christian education allowing children to be taught in all spheres of school from a biblical, Christ-centered manor. An education that allows a Christ, parent, child and school relationship to further develop a child’s God-given gifts for a life of service in     His Kingdom.

    I would like to serve on the PCHS Board to offer any time and talents I’ve been blessed
    with to help further develop and nurture Christian Education.” 

District III: (one to be elected)

Rick Fopma or Julie Van Wyk

Rick and wife, Carla, have 3 children, Rochelle, Shawn and Trisha, all who attended and are graduates of PCHS. Rick and Carla are members of the Sully Christian Reformed Church and engaged in the farming profession.  He states: 

“As a parent and now grandparent, I want the best quality of education for our students,
 so students can use the gifts God has given them to help them succeed in life. I believe Christ should be the center of their quality education. 

It seems families, businesses and organizations are going through difficult changes and challenges at this time. I have an interest to help lead PCHS and work together with others to do what is best for the society, parents, students and staff.”

Julie and husband Lauren live near Sully and have 4 children; Kara (18) and Kelly (16) who both attended PCHS this year, Renae (12) and Landon (10) currently enrolled at Sully Christian.  Julie is employed at the Pella Regional Health Center as a receptionist. The Van Wyk family attends Sully Christian Reformed Church. Julie states the following:

    “We choose Christian Education because we want our children to be surrounded by 
       teachers and peers who hold similar Christian values.” 

District IV (one to be elected)

Irv De Bruin (incumbent) or Lisa De Bruin

Irv is married to Anne and they have three grown children, Grant, Renae and Karla who all attended Christian school. Irv is a self-employed contractor and is completing a 3-year term on the PCHS board where he serves on the Building and Grounds committee and has placed himself for re-election. Irv and Anne are members of Oskaloosa I CRC. Irv submitted the following statement:

    “I believe that it is a great opportunity to raise our children in a school devoted to 
      Christian education. I appreciate the dedicated teachers who work alongside parents
      dedicated to educate their students. Continuity among area Christian schools is 
              important to advance Christian Education into the future.” 
Lisa and her husband Kurtis, reside near Oskaloosa and have 4 children, Jaren (17) and Bethany (15) who attend PCHS, Erica (13) and Kate (9) at Oskaloosa Christian.  Lisa is employed as an office assistant. The De Bruin’s attend Oskaloosa I CRC. Lisa states:

    “Christian education is very important to me as it is an extension of what are seeking at
      home for our children. By serving on the board I feel I can assist in implementing
      policies for the success of all students.” 

District IV (one to be elected)

Mike Ver Meer 

Mike is married to Janet and they have two children, Rachel who is a 2015 graduate of PCHS and Dominick who just finished his senior year at PCHS. Mike works as a CPA and attends Faith CRC in Pella. Mike submitted the following statement:

“Christian education is a privileged opportunity we have to equip our children with the knowledge to serve to the glory of God to the best of their ability.”
