Peer Tutoring
Peer Tutoring is a program at Pella Christian High that serves several purposes. First, it provides an opportunity for students to gain experience in the helping professions by assisting other students with academic and social needs. Second, the students who are assigned a peer tutor not only gain one-on-one, immediate attention to their academic needs, but also often gain a friend. Third, teachers are able to use their own time more effectively since some of the routine tutorial needs are met through peer tutors.
Sixteen students are involved in peer tutoring during this 2006-2007 school year. Some of them worked at the high school, some at Pella Christian Grade School and some go to Creation Station. Each tutor serves from 3-5 periods each week. Mrs. Helen Luhrs and Mr. Dan Van Kooten have provided short inservices for the tutors and are co-directing this program.
