High School at Pella Christian
High school is a big step. As a parent, you’re exploring your options for a school where your teen will thrive. You realize that the high school years greatly influence what comes next, whether that’s higher education, career training, or a different path.
You want your son or daughter to have every opportunity for success through strong academics and enriching experiences within a Christ-centered community. Our program offers a challenging liberal arts education and enrichments designed to empower students to excel in their gifts and discover their purpose in God’s world.
Key Distinctives
Academic Tracks
At the high school level, we prepare students to be ready for college, careers, and most importantly, the kingdom. Academic counselors come alongside students to provide guidance around navigating course selection, class schedules, and college planning. Student and parent informational presentations are especially helpful as your child’s interests and goals begin to take shape
Enriching Experiences
Students gain valuable insight into their passions and abilities as they engage in the annual Winterim learning experience between the first and second semesters. During the weeklong intensive, students can take non-traditional courses, participate in internships, or serve on local or international mission trips.
Engaging Electives
Some of our popular electives include family and consumer sciences, industrial arts, and a music program that includes band, marching band, and choir. Teens can pursue their interests through one of the many clubs offered. They can explore their creativity in drama/theatre by participating in our fall musical or spring play. We also have an FFA chapter, international club, student council, and Caleb Crew, where students meet for Wednesday Bible study and Bonnie’s rolls.
Championship-Winning Athletics
The four pillars of our athletic program are servant leadership, kingdom impact, God-honoring excellence, and cultivating joy. The Eagles field 35 high school teams and compete in the Little Hawkeye Conference. At PC, we take pride in the fact that 90% of our students participate in athletics, and 70% of our athletes compete in multiple sports.
College & Career Prep
A roadmap to success.
Post-high school plans vary widely among our high school students. Pella Christian graduates advance to college, career, apprenticeships or certifications, military, and gap year programs.
Students can get a jump start on higher education with opportunities to to earn college credits and dual enrollment classes while at PC. Teens can choose from more than 40 college class options. Internship and independent study opportunities are adapted to students’ unique interests and geared toward helping them pursue their future goals.
A high school academic counselor is available daily to assist students with schedules, online class registration, career planning, and discussing possible schooling options during and after high school. This counselor can provide information about colleges and universities, visits, and requirements. Scholarship programs, armed services test programs, and test results are also available.
PC grads have attended Dordt University, Northwestern College, University of Iowa, Iowa State, Trinity College, Indian Hills Community College, Des Moines Area Community College, and University of Northern Iowa.
School Culture
A transformative learning environment.
At Pella Christian, we intentionally integrate faith into every area of learning. Through the Teaching for Transformation framework, teachers design learning opportunities that invite, nurture, and empower students to discover God’s story and live out their beliefs.
We are rooted in the Reformed faith and firmly believe that God is sovereign over all spheres of life.
Whole-child development
Students are educated and nurtured to serve in God’s world. Biblical truth is woven into the fabric of every academic course and extracurricular activity in our high school program.
Uplifting environment
Your teen will be surrounded by positive influences that reflect your family’s values. At PC, they will be part of a healthy culture encouraging them to grow in their faith and develop healthy relationships.
Joyful service
Students show Christ’s love by volunteering annually. Individual service hour requirements allow students to take ownership and explore service opportunities that align with their gifts and interests.
Our caring faculty and staff will get to know your teenager, celebrate their strengths, and support them as they navigate the high school years. We offer a school counselor to assist students with social and emotional support. This counselor is available part-time and is at school three to four days a week.
Inviting Community
A safe place to learn and grow
Our high school campus is located on the southwest side of Pella, Iowa. The campus was built in 2006-2007 and includes the Eagles’ stadium, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, and a gymnasium. Pella, Iowa, is a beautiful city known for tulips, Dutch letters, beef sticks, and rich Dutch heritage.
Many of our families live within a 5-20 mile radius of the campus. PC also offers busing within the city limits and many surrounding communities.
